AbstractA comparative doctor/patient survey on direct-to-consumer advertising (DTCA) in primary care was carried out in Vancouver, B.C., in June-August 2000 and in Sacramento, California, in March-June 2001. The aim of was to assess the frequency of patient requests for prescription drugs in an environment in which direct-to-consumer advertising is allowed, in the United States, as compared to an environment in which DTCA is illegal, in Canada, but in which considerable exposure exists to indirect and cross-border advertising.
